I have decided...

that SUNDAYS are going to be MY DAYS.  Back in the day...stores were closed on Sunday.  It was a time for worship (church), family dinners, and sitting around the front porch chatting, relaxing...taking your ease.  Kids played outside on warm days and probably drove parents crazy on cold ones when they are all cooped up inside.  We live in a go-go-go-do it all-do-more society. And we wonder why we are stressed out, worn out, lose our mojo and our get up and go has got up and went.  I didn't sleep well last night.  Woke up sleepy and irritable. The praise band this morning was WAY too loud.  Had a headache as we left worship.  My mind was full of what needs to be done...before the work week and during.  At breakfast I knew--I was a cranky toddler in much-need of a nap!  And I took one.  It felt GOOD. I gave myself permission to rest and relax. God has given me permission....for well over more years than I've been alive. If GOD says it's ok to do it-who am I to question?! Sheesh. Will I ever get it?!
So--I am going back to Karen Mains book Making Sunday Special.  In it she talks about the Jewish traditions of making Shabbat (Sabbath) special.  They begin preparing early in the week. Everything is done and ready before sundown the day before. So they can focus on what's coming. A day of focusing on their Creator. On family. On a day of rest.  Karen tells how to transform their traditions into one that works for Christians as well.  To have preparations done.  To have some special family time. To celebrate Christ and the Sabbath.  My husband just took her book off the shelf for me (it's up high!), and I've blown the dust off.  I am going to read it...again.  This is an excerpt from Karen Mains that I found here:
Sabbath Steps: The Best Day of the Week Tuesday, September 8, 2009 by Karen Mains How can I make Sunday the best day of the week? One of the ways to do so is to consider the weekly rhythm of Sabbath-keeping.

In order to get into the rhythm of God’s sacred Sabbath time, this is a question we need to learn to ask in the middle of each week:
“How can I make Sunday the best day of the week?”
And the best way I have learned to answer the that question is with another:
“How can I fashion this day so that it is a day for making love?”
The concept behind the Sabbath is that God has given us the gift of time;
24 hours that are not to be crowded with the cares of the workweek;
24 hours for rest and recreation that are not to be intruded upon with the worries of ordinary time (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday).

There are many theological explanations for keeping the Sabbath “dance.”
In fact, the more I practice, the more I learn, the more I agree with Karl Barth’s exclamation of “a certain awe. The radical importance, the almost monstrance range of the Sabbath commandment.” The more one studies Sabbath, the more there is to study and learn about it. Yet no theology stimulates me motivationally more than the love analogy.

I am learning to observe Sunday with a Sabbath heart, with the heart of a young woman who polishes her engagement ring; who holds it to the light so the diamond can catch the shining; who remembers that the setting apart of this day is meaningful to the One she loves; whose heart floods with joy at the thought that He (the Lord of the Sabbath) is coming in a special weekly visit,
that the day will be spent in His company without the distractions of the workweek.

I look inward and make sure there are no idol suitors vying for my attention.
For instance, have I watched too much television/video on the weekend, and are my thoughts filled with everything but my desire to know Him better.
 Is my heart chaste?
Are my desires for my Loved One and for Him alone?
Is there anything in my life that will cause Him grief or sadness when we come together?

And I am learning that Sabbath/Sunday is a love day, a day to adore.
As I strive to celebrate Sunday with a Sabbath heart, I have learned that when the Loved One is near, I don’t work.
I don’t need to spend an afternoon shopping
or to spend Sunday catching up on the tasks I didn’t get done during the week.
This is a day set apart for love.
It is a day for dancing with God.

In fact, think of it like this: Sabbath/Sunday is a day on Earth
that comes each week so that we can practice the steps of eternity
where Sabbath never ends.
We are practicing here in this time how to be good and loving Sabbath-keepers there,
when we move beyond and out of time’s constraints.

So, how can I make Sunday the best day of the week?
How can I set it apart so that it is a day ideal for making holy love?

I Googled her book and yes, it's still available--just  go to Amazon.com. In my search for that-I found this blog as well:  http://50shousewife.blogspot.com/2009/04/making-sunday-special.html  --I will check that out more thoroughly next.  For now, I am relaxing. The laundry will wait.  I know I have at least one outfit for work in the morning.  So will the dustbunnies.  The cleaning ladies come tomorrow (one advantage to fibro?!).  I am also going to go back to Flylady's site: http://www.flylady.net/ and my routines.  They will sync together nicely with Karen's book. And while I could find Karen's book on the web...I could not find my favorite artist John Paul Walters rendition of Summertime...so here's the lyrics...or part of them...

summertime and the living is easy
Fish are jumping and the cotton is high
Your daddy's rich and your mama's good-looking
Hush, little baby don't you cry
don't cry, don't cry, don't cry

Yep-summertime is almost here...and I don't know about you...but my days are gonna get easier-particularly SUNDAY's!  Now to go get some sun, eat some fresh picked peas...maybe a boat ride...Until next time, happy stamping and scrapping! Blessings, Sharon

Taking a break...

the books....are FINISHED. Except for...3. The photos didn't come-but will next week. For now, the FINISHED books are waiting for business cards and a twine bow to seal the deal.  That's tomorrow. For today...I took a break between them and laundry...with a cup of coffee and did some blog hopping. There's a salty breeze coming in the front door...some music from another blog playing...ahhh.  And I ended up here at Kelle Hampton's Blog...she has some AWESOME photography...two BEAUTIFUL girls...and I enjoyed scrolling through...big and little sis...dad painting nails....sand in the mouth...and, as I looked a little closer...I realized there was something special about the youngest one...and I wondered, "does she have Downs?"  So I clicked on Kelle's bio-nothing. Then I went to her link If you are new, start here...and read about Nella's birth story--you can read it here--but, before you do, get comfortable.  Find something to drink...and by all means...don't forget the KLEENEX.  Lots of  them!  The tears are gushing and they aren't showing signs of letting up any time soon.  I got to the part about the dr. coming in and telling her...and let me tell you, I will be saying a prayer (of thanks!) for that dr. for a very long time! Kelle writes:

My pediatrician snuggled Nella up in a blanket and handed her to me...and she knelt down next to my bed so that she could look up at me...not down. She smiled so warmly and held my hand so tight. And she never took her eyes off mine. We had been through a lot together with Lainey's jaundice and I have spent many tearful conversations with her over the course of these two and a half years. She is an amazing pediatrician. But at this moment, she became more than that. She was our friend as she beautifully shared the news.

I need to tell you something.
...and I cried hard... "I know what you're going to say."
She smiled again and squeezed my hand a little tighter.
The first thing I'm going to tell you is that your daughter is beautiful and perfect.
...and I cried harder.
...but there are some features that lead me to believe she may have Down Syndrome.
Finally, someone said it.
I felt hot tears stream down and fall on my baby's face. My beautiful, perfect daughter. I was scared to look up at Brett, so I didn't. I just kissed her.
And then, Dr. Foley added...
...but, Kelle....she is beautiful. and perfect.

OHMYGOSH! Bring the buckets, please!  The story goes on...and I can't wait to read her other posts...she may even have a book by now--I will be checking it out-for sure!  Kelle's sister went on to tell her that she had been chosen-and it was indeed a special thing.  I agree. Theresa is my great friend. Theresa is mom to Theresa, Too (Two)--"TT" for short--her beautiful and perfect daughter who just happens to have Downs.  Theresa's birth story as quite different--but Mom Theresa didn't listen to those around her-Thank you, Jesus-and Mom Theresa, despite the depressing prognoses of the medical professionals, has done an AWESOME job of raising this special girl.  I simply can't imagine life without TT.  She keeps us laughing. She greets her mom (and me!) with "Hi, Beautiful!"  She can shop until WE drop--as long as we feed her! lol! Life is definitely in the moment for her. No holding grudges. No worries from yesterday. It's now. It's simple. There's so much we can learn from her...  Time to switch laundry. And maybe make a couple of cards for my friends named Theresa--they are, after all...beautiful and down-right perfect!  Until next time, happy stamping and scrapping. Blessings, Sharon

Busy as a Little Bee...

I've been busy as a little bee working on 28 accordion pocket photo albums for a fundraiser for the preschool at the church I work for. Whenever my husband sees a group of small kids, he says they look like little bees buzzing about!  That's been me with papers, scissors, tape gun, crayons, photos...whew!
I used Close to My Heart Fanfare paper--love the stars and bright colors--the bright yellow base really sets it off.  I wish I could show their cute little faces  but gotta protect the kiddos--it's way too cute as they are all kinda doing their own thing! I used the Stampin' Up tab punch for the little tag and attached it with a small gold star and eyelet (I've had these in my stash forever!)

and a dollar store crayon added just the right touch for an added embellishment.  Red gingham ribbon (or anything for that matter!) is a favorite of mine and it just slips behind the photo and over the crayon then around the back...

Inside is an accordion panel that pulls out and there's room for 13 photos!

Thank God Theresa is saving my backside one more time and is going to help me put the photos in on Friday!  The books need to be delivered on Monday! Not cutting it close or anything! lol! These make great little gifts for photos of  special event and slip easily into a purse.
Time to go to work!
Until next time, happy stamping and scrapping!
Blessings, Sharon

Pass the PEAS, please...

Go ahead-I double dare you to say that fast three times before your morning coffee! Lol. These really look a little gnarly- I just popped them out of the fridge to take the photos and they have this funky looking "film" just from being cold.  My hubby decided for some reason to try PEAS in his garden this year. I went down to help him pick the first crop.  He handed me one fresh off the vine and said "taste this".  It was AWESOME!  We ended up eating as many as we picked-pod and all!  They are nice and firm and crunchy (I HATE mushy peas and will only eat frozen peas (cooked, of course) until I tried these.  We've put them in salads and crunch away. Better yet, I find myself going after them rather than crackers or chips when I have the urge to "crunch"!
and are they just not ADORABLE lined up in the pod?

Ahhh...summer is on it's way--fresh veggies. Can't wait for the TOMATOES to arrive! We've already had fresh corn on the cob (store bought but still...) and even better for me this year as my allergies tested NEGATIVE to corn so I can eat it again without worrying about side effects!
Ok. On to some crafty stuff! Go here and you can enter to win some BLOG CANDY---either a Cricut cartridge or an IMAGINE cartridge!  Well, I am going to win the Cricut cartridge so YOU can register to win the Imagine one! After all, it is a POP UP cartridge and we all know how the OKI StampQueen feels about POP UP things~!
Better go get these royal buns ready for work! Until next time, happy stamping and scrapping!
Blessings, Sharon

Lost and found...

Good afternoon all.  If you think you "lost" me--I've been "found"!  I was here (tried to crop this so you could see that that sign on the lamp post says THE CITADEL in Charleston, SC visiting (albeit BRIEFLY) my "nephew" who will be a junior in fall.  I was quite impressed with the campus, met the Commandant, had special seating (better than I had at my step-son's wedding-but won't go there!)
and was quite impressed (despite pouring down rain and a drastic dip in temperature) in the pomp and circumstance of the "parade"
This is called the Long Gray Line and the current regimental commander is turning over the command to the new commander for next year.  It's pretty cool, too, that my other "nephew" held the regimental commander position last year. Both my "nephews" (who are brothers) have attended The Citadel and are fine young men.  I was thoroughly impressed with ALL the young men and women I saw and met and their manners and courtesy as well as that of their superiors.  We have some fine folks preparing to serve our country and I was really touched by the care and concern their leaders showed for each of them.
Saturday their mom (my friend of 30+ years!) and I spent some time sight-seeing...

and I completely fell in love with Chaaaaa-rls-tn!
The photo below is of what's called Rainbow Row-a row...

with the different colored buildings I think you can tell how it got it's name.
We had lots of "girl-time", shopping and good eating...
and I definitely want to go back!  I am sure there's a lot more of the city to see,
and I would also like to see Sullivan's Island, Pawley's Island
and a few other places along the way.
For a number of reasons, Mother's Day is a painful time for me
and this was a wonderful diversion.
Kinda disappointed in that Charleston is a place that my hubby and I have always talked about visiting together and never have for whatever reason--
but seeing it and catching up with my friend was quite enjoyable!
She showed me a wonderful week-end  I have some great new memories.
As soon as I finish editing my photos and upload them to Shutterfly,
I will be putting these

to use to document our trip. I have just enough photos to make this cute little album!
Until next time, happy stamping and scrapping!
Blessings, Sharon

Only ONE Queen...!

Note: SECOND IMAGE is my Guest Designer entry!

Good Morning All!  I was sitting here blog hopping and had stopped at  Lisa's blog here and found a Guest Designer call for Mo's Digital Pencil, too  blog found here.  While I wanted to submit my rendition of Mo's "Little Umbrella"...
when I checked the theme of the Guest Design team call it was for something Monochromatic. Hmmm... I am getting ready to go out of town and really didn't have time to whip up a new creation...BUT...then my eye wandered to this little gem that sits on my desk:

I think it's PERFECT~! My inner child is 4 and I can just hear this little gal's scream (sounds vaguely familiar, too!) and feel her frustration! It makes me smile to look at it!  I added a little detail to her tutu...
I took a piece of pink sheer ribbon, gathered it, and hot glued it behind the leotard which is paper pieced and, of course, pop-dotted!  Then I added some Martha Stewart glitter to the edge.
Whether I win or not, I love playing with Mo's images!
For now, I'd better get packing!
Until next time, happy stamping and scrapping!
Blessings,
Sharon
aka the Oak Island (OKI) StampQueen
Note: just wanted to clarify something as I went back to look at  Mo's blog again-this piece HAS NOT been entered in any challenge or shown on any other blog. It was a piece that I made purely for myself!
