No Adhesive Allowed--Take 2

I guess my mojo is coming back!

Two posts in less than 24 hrs!

 

Today's project is one that I kept saying,

"I need to make that card!"

It was on my "round-to-it list" and never seemed to get it done.

Yesterday was the round-to-it day!

 

I needed to make a card

but no adhesive of any kind could be used.

It is for a young man who has been given

a sentence of life in prison.

His mother, grandmother and sister

attend our church.

I made  the first card for his birthday

and I received a very nice card and note in return.

I wanted to thank him for that and share a little more with him

so I went to work on this...

Forgive the dark photos--it was after dark last night when

I took these-and yes, I realized after the fact

that that white piece had slipped down...

remember-no adhesive--

so those are layered without glue or tape

and simply tucked behind the insert inside...

which is held in by using the Stampin' Up slitty punch

Not sure what the real name of that little sucker is--

but it is WAY COOL and something I use A LOT!

The insert was cut with the

Close to My Heart Artiste cartridge.

The outer card is made with CTMH Moonlight papers

the inside panel is contraband (aka not CTMH).

It has a little texture to it

and is thick...so much so

that I ended up having to use my finger knife

to trim out that "hello" as the Cricut

didn't cut it through--even set on slow

and the deepest setting.

I think the texture had something to do with it

(those little dots are raised up).

 

When you've been stamping and scrapping

as long as I have

there's not a lot left to challenge you--

but I gotta say-

trying to make something without adhesive-

can be a challenge!

Using corner punches and the slitty punch

is the secret

and I sense a lot more creative challenges

coming up.

 

Our senior citizen, Bad Cat,

is giving the baby aka Inky

a run for his money this morning!

I've not seen him playing and chasing

anything as much as he is the little guy this morning!

Must be the cooler weather!

So much for my morning cartoons!

Lol!

 

I am off to do some flyladying

and work on yet another project--

a THIRD post in less than 48 hours....

hmmm.....not impossible!

We'll see what I can brew up!

only a little brewing going on here...

I whipped up some treats

with the Close to My Heart

Art Philosophy and Artiste Cartridges...

I used the AP cartridge to cut the pillow boxes

and then the Artiste cartridge to cut out

the adorable labels!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the cartridges and the

Magic Potions stamp set!

 

The other tags say

"Eye of Owl Magic Cream"

Too too funny---and I happened to see these

shortly after I made

this card...

The netting was in my stash-

and I wanted to add a ribbon-spider-webbing looking

thingy

(how's that for technical terms?!)

So I just cut a strip, tied it around and fanned it out

and hot glued the rosette to it.

The net has enough "give" to it

that I think they can slide it off

to get the candy out

and slip it back on if they want to save it!

Can't go wrong with a combo of

Close to My Heart and CHOCOLATE!

Sneak Peeks on Sunday...

Yesterday

after I finished my "groupie" kits

for this month's class

 

just a sneak peak as it's a week or so away---

and they will freak if they see it beforehand

I cannot take credit for it--

another CTMH consultant created it

and I totally cased it--

I will give her full credit when I post the real deal

in it's entirety...

 

Anyway-

I had just finished the groupie kits

when hubby came in and suggested a day trip

to Lake Waccamaw

with our canoe little red boat...

he had read an article in Our State magazine

about it.

I said sure...let's do it!

He started packing our lunch...

do you see his "helper"?!

Yes, the "baby" immediately checked out the cooler bag!

 

 

After a stop at the visitor's center

where a nice lady told us we would enjoy the little canals

that run along the backsides of the lake

far more than the lake itself---

we set out...and she was right!

See if you can spy

the turtle...the leaf...the bird's nest...the ducks...

another turtle...the great white heron...

and last but not least...

the alligator!

There were tons of dragonflies

but they were to fast to capture with the camera!

I gotta say ---I absolutely LOVE my CANNON ELPH!

That last turtle pic...there is NO photo editing to that...

(in fact none to most of the photos I posted)

and we were a good ways off...that was just with the zoom--

far better than my Nikon ever did!

 

We had a picnic lunch while just drifting along...

It was sooo nice out there!

Perfect weather and the water was just like glass...

at least in the little canals we were in...

as you can see by the reflection in this pic...



After reloading the boat

we drove around a little bit-

houses on one side of the road

with a grassy area leading to their boat ramps

and docks and boat houses

on the other!

 

We ended up at Dale's Seafood

where we had fried catfish and shrimp for supper

and brought enough home that we can make

three lunches easily out of the leftovers!

It was delicious, fresh and PLENTY OF FOOD!

Topped that off with a stop at Dairy Queen when we hit

our own little island home.

 

As Ratty said to Mole,

"There is nothing, absolutely nothing

half so much as doing as messing about in boats...

just messing..."

it certainly was

a great day for messing about in the boat!

 

Worshipped this morning

and helped serve communion--

always an awesome experience

in and of itself...

not sure what the rest of the day will hold...

just taking it slow and easy...

Hide and Seek Saturday

Just a cat photo for today...

Hide and seek...can you find him?!

The green eyes give him away!

This is a spot in my kitchen-

that blue is the top to the cat food container-

then there's brown paper bags

stored behind it---

complete with cat! lol!

"Momma, how does this thing open, Momma?

I's hungry!"

Humph!

Maybe if I sit here and wait

she'll get the hint!

 

Hubby just came in

and asked if I wanted to take a day trip--

a ride to Lake Waccamaw

with our canoe...

despite raging allergies--

I think I will!

Sunshine and water can't hurt--

especially if I take a Zyrtec first!

I didn't run away...

or die yet...although I feel like it!

Be it cold-or allergies-or whatever

 

it is NOT going away.
Not quickly anyway.

Even skipped church this morning

so you know it's bad!

Sigh.

 

Few cat photos to share---

 

I don't get to sit in my new chair often--

as these two guys

particularly the gray one...

are usually in it

(although I found the gray one in the dryer this morning

curled up on the clean dry clothes...!)

 

I was lounging on the loveseat  earlier this week

when I heard a huge crash coming from the kitchen.

Hubby was standing in front of the open refrigerator door

with a puzzled look on his face.

Seems the "rail" that holds the various bottles and jars

on the door broke off and a part went flying.

Not seeing it out in the open or in the fridge itself,

Momma gets on her tummy with a flashlight

and eventually a  yard stick

and pokes under the fridge and dryer

(they are side by side--unfortunately)

While the door part wasn't there

I did discover where all the "whittle mice"

as Maren used to call them were hiding...

along with a milk jug bottle top

(aka cat toy: anything that isn't nailed down).

The fridge part-was actually-in the fridge

All fixed.

Last week-end I took hubby on a date---

he did enjoy it-really-can't tell from this pic tho!

We went to the Amuzu Theatre in Southport

to see Rock -n-Roll Is Here to Stay.

We had never been in this theatre-built in 1918

and closed in '79--reopened in 2003 for live theatre performances.

It seats about 100 people---wood floors, ceiling-brick walls

tiny stage

The music was AWESOME!

They had an MC who had formerly worked as a DJ

and he gave some background on each song-whose hit it was

and the performers were awesome---even ELVIS!

There were numerous costume changes

even for the guys.

Tickets were $ 15 each but the show lasted about 3 hours

and included 37 songs! It was well worth double that price!

 

More cats.

This little guy does not like drinking out of a water dish...

He's pushing the hibiscus blossom out of the way

to drink! Gesh.

I used to keep a pitcher on the counter

just for him...until stepson came to visit and well,

he didn't KNOW it was the cat's pitcher...it had water and he wanted some!

Oops!

 

This guy you can find in my craft room in the afternoon sun...

think he's a little warm with bottom side up...

that's a catnip fish to the left--maybe he wore himself out playing first!

Well,

it's back to bed or couch or--

wherever there's Kleenex...

I do have some craft ideas---just no energy to carry them out

just yet...stay tuned tho!

Misc. this morning...

Technically

I am supposed to be a vendor

at a short craft show this morning...

technically.

 

So not there...

obviously.

After 4 days of little-to-no sleep

fibro flaring, headache raging

and yesterday the nausea set in...

at which point I had to bite the bullet

and tell my goddaughter I couldn't do it.

I HATE disappointing a 12 year old.

But

her mom will help her and her friend

and I pray they will sell lots of their things.

Mine is sitting in their storage boxes

on my kitchen table.

I hurt so bad last night

it hurt to hold my novel I was trying to read!

Today is a little better

ahhh--the difference some SLEEP can make!

 

 

Please say a prayer or two for this beautiful gal

Her  human brother wrote that

she's having trouble standing this morning...

If you've followed my blog...

you know that

a few years back her elderly owner

decided he could no longer care for her

and was going to have her put down.

My husband and I began a frantic search

to find someone who could take her

(we have 4 inside cats and our home is up on pilings

not good for a senior citizen like Carla...

although she did live with us for week or so!)

A lady from our church came and they fell in love!

Her home was one-level with a huge fenced in yard.

Carla thrived!

It may just be a rough day for her

we've had some cooler weather...

or it may be age catching up with her

both and...

anyway--we covet your prayers

for Carla, her family and our awesome vet!

 

On Wed. night I happened to peek out our front door

and the sunset was beautiful!

I don't know what I did-

but I accidentally changed settings on my camera...

so this isn't as pretty as it was in person

but here's a glimpse to the right...

that's the ocean below those clouds...

and inbetween the houses...

 

This one is from our Widow's Walk...

And when I went to take the next photos...

I kept seeing these sparkly flashes of light

when the flash would go off..

HUH?

 

as you can plainly see in the other photos---

it was NOT SNOWING---

although that's what this looks like...

 

after the 3rd photo-

I realized what it was---

we have these little tiny bugs we call

no-see-um's.

A gnat-like insect

and if the wind is laid down---

they SWARM the Widow's Walk-

and that's what the light was catching!

 

There was another critter I captured as well...

 

That's the baby (aka INKY) and yes, he's on our roof--

that is 3 stories up!

 

 I DO NOT like to watch him out there!

It makes me terribly nervous--he loves it tho!

On another note...

Baby Liam is officially HOME!

He left the NICU earlier this week

and is doing well!

Thank you for your prayers for him!

He's my "nephew's" first-born

and had quite a rough start

but is doing fine now.

 

That's it for me today.

I gotta take it easy---

I may try and label and repack

some of my craft stock

and/or make a couple of cards I need to do--

but I think it's going to me and the bed or couch

or lounge chair on the deck

for the bulk of the day.

Not much choice given how I feel.

Praying the new meds will help

but it's going to take some time...
